Much like the 8-division world champion Manny Pacquiao, Hawton too is a Filipino- and holds the current WBO Light Flyweight Title. The WBO title has long been synonymous with Pacquiao- after he won the strap via TKO in the 11th round against Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto (40-5) in 2009. Pacquiao would go on to defend the title against some of the sports' biggest names- including former P4P king Shane Mosley (49-10-1) and long-time rival Juan Manuel Marquez (56-7-1).
In an exclusive interview with Australian Boxing Central, Hawton commented on what it would mean for her to fight on the undercard of Pacquiao/Horn.
Hawton: "To have the opportunity to share the stage with Manny in Australia would be the highlight of my career for sure! He is a legend and surely one who continues to inspire and motivate me in my own work. To fight in front of so many Australian and Filipino fans would be such a thrill as my two cultures come together."
She continued, stating what she'd say to legendary promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank given an audience-
"Bob, you need me on this show- I will be a draw-card for this event! Just like Manny I am the WBO World Champion. Being Aussie/Filipino myself with all the Australian Filipino fans tuning in for this big one down under I'm sure my fight will be a crowd pleaser. Dubbed the female Pacquiao by my fans and with women's boxing in the spotlight right now it's perfect! What do you think!?"
Hawton concluded with stating who she'd like to take on to defend her title-
"I wouldn't mind defending my World Title against Eun Hye Lee (9-1) from South Korea- she was my original match up for the world title that saw so many set backs last year."
