Both brothers will be competing on the stacked "Punches At The Park II" show promoted by Hosking Promotions on Saturday night. 4 titles will be contested for on the card- with the Moloney brothers defending their WBA Oceania Titles, top Victorian middleweight Michael Zerafa defending his IBF Pan Pacific title against Renato Oliviera, and Gaige Ireland taking on tough veteran Shadey Souied for the Victorian State Lightweight Title. Both Ibrahim and Qamil Balla will also be competing- with Ibby taking on Agus Kustiawan and Qamil taking on Musa Letding, both over 10 rounds.
Promoter of the show, Lynden Hosking believes that all 5 fighters are on the brink of big things in the sport
Hosking: I think all five fighters are on the cusp of doing special things in this sport. The Moloney brothers continue to impress and improve in every fight and are hell bent on taking on bigger challenges from 2017. After an appearance on the Mundine vs. Green card in early February the plan is keep busy and hopefully enter world title calculations by the end of the year. The Balla boys are at the stage where they are ready to make their move and take on anyone. Qamil is keen to fight any Lightweight in the country, including George Kambosos and Brandon Ogilvie, and will be putting the challenge out in 2017. If he can get past those types of guys then the sky is the limit. Ibby is looking forward to potential fights with the likes of Joel Brunker and Nathaniel May. He will then be ready to have another crack at the international scene. Michael Zerafa is off to the USA in early 2017 to become a part of the Wild Card Gym in LA under Freddie Roach- so the opportunities available to him will be endless.
In an exclusive interview with Australian Boxing Central, we caught up with twin brothers Andy and Jason Moloney to discuss their upcoming fight on Saturday night.
I feel like I am improving with every fight and hopefully by the end of 2017 I'm right up in the top 10 and on the door step of a world title shot.
Andrew: I will be defending my WBA Oceania Title for the second time and again I will be facing a tough experienced opponent. I'm hoping a win on Saturday night will again push my further up the rankings. Next year I will be looking to have 5 fights and therefor finish the year at 16-0, which should have me in line to be fighting for the World Title. Things are starting to get really exciting now! I'm looking forward to having a big 2017.
A stellar 2016 for you- with 5 wins from 5 fights. In the lead up to your 6th and final fight for the year, how has the preparation been going?
Andrew: 2016 has been a great year for me and my team. Everything has gone to plan and I feel I am improving with every fight. This has been another great preparation, I was straight back in the gym after my last fight so I was already fit and in shape. This camp we have really been able to focus on fixing some mistakes I made in my last fight and improving. I'm looking forward to a career best performance on Saturday night.
You're fighting on a stacked card- featuring some of Victoria's top talent such the Balla boys and Michael Zerafa- not to mention yourself and Andy. Having fought Ibby as an amateur, what do you think it is about your styles that suit the professional game?
Jason: Yes, Hosking Promotions have done a great job in putting together this stacked card. All 5 of our fights are worthy of a main event so the fans are really being spoilt with these 5 fights all on the same night! One thing myself, Andrew and the Balla boys always provide is excitement! We have all trained extremely hard and we're ready to give the fans a great night of boxing.
